Allama Iqbal Open University is the oldest university of not only Pakistan but also of Asia. This university was established with the aim to provide quality education to all the citizens of Pakistan especially if it is difficult for them to attend regular classes for their studies. The main campus of AIOU is in Islamabad while it has several sub campuses in every part of the country. AIOU provides educational facilities to the students from matric to PhD level while several certificate and diploma courses are also offered for the candidates. Every year, thousands of students take admissions in AIOU for different classes and courses. Most of the courses and classes are semester based where admissions and exams are held twice in a year during spring and autumn semesters. Apart from distance education, regular classes are also held for few higher classes like PhD, BSCS etc.
Students of AIOU have to prepare assignments during every semester. The students have to prepare the assignments and exams from the books provided to them by AIOU. In the end of every semester, an exam is taken by the university. One or two months after the exams, the result is issued by the university which include marks in assignments and exams. Passing in both papers and assignments is necessary. Practical papers are also held for science subjects. After the exams of last semester, the complete result is issued for the students and grades are awarded to students according to their performance during the whole course. The results of semester exams and final exams are uploaded at the official site of AIOU soon after the result announcement. The result cards are also mailed to the given addresses of the students.
